Two-Way Immersion

Implemented at Phoenix Elementary in 1992 and later at Talent Elementary, the Phoenix-Talent School District’s Two-Way Immersion (TWI) program is a K-5 educational model that integrates native English- and native Spanish-speaking students for all or most of the day to improve the academic and linguistic performance of both groups. Students who opt in to the program acquire bilingual and biliterate skills in both English and Spanish. This K-5 program utilizes a biliteracy framework to ensure that students learn to speak, read, and write fluently in both languages.
