PHS aims to "Show Up for Katy"

Phoenix High School is proud to announce “Show Up for Katy,” a two-event fundraising campaign supporting this year’s adopted Sparrow through Southern Oregon Sparrow Clubs.

Katy is a 17-year-old young woman who recently celebrated her birthday on Halloween. She loves animals, enjoys studying history — especially historical figures — and has a passion for spicy foods.

At age 9, Katy was diagnosed with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections), a condition in which a strep infection can trigger the immune system to attack the brain. Despite ongoing treatments, including steroids, antibiotics, and IVIG transfusions, Katy suffered a severe stroke on May 15, 2025, caused by a blood clot in her brain.

She was emergency airlifted to Portland, where doctors performed life-saving surgery to relieve intense swelling. Her family was told the long-term effects could significantly impact her ability to walk, speak, and live independently.

Despite these challenges, Katy has shown extraordinary resilience. She continues to work tirelessly to regain strength and independence and remains an inspiration to her family and community.

To support Katy, Phoenix High School will host two fundraising events:

Phoenix High’s Got Talent

Friday, March 13 (6-8 p.m.) at Phoenix High School's Rose Street Theater
Admission:
  • $3 – Adults & PHS students
  • $1 – Elementary & Middle School students

Winning acts will be determined in two ways:
  • 1st–3rd place selected by a panel of PHS staff judges
