PHS grad rate hits 93%

A girl receives her diploma

PHOENIX – Phoenix High School’s adjusted on-time graduation rate in 2025 was 93.1%, according to data released by the Oregon Department of Education on Thursday, marking the sixth consecutive year that the PHS four-year graduation rate exceeded 90%.
All told, 163 of 174 students in the cohort that entered PHS during the 2021-22 school year received either a diploma or modified diploma last year. That mark is 10 percentage points above Oregon’s 83% graduation rate for the same cohort, and eight points above the average among Jackson County high schools (85.2%).
Phoenix High’s 2025 graduation rate ranked second to Eagle Point High School (94.6%) among non-charter high schools in Jackson County.
“I’m incredibly proud of our students and the determination they’ve shown, especially given the disruptions this class experienced early in high school,” Phoenix High principal Kalin Cross said, referring to the lingering impact of the pandemic and the 2020 Alemeda fire, which displaced 798 students in the Phoenix-Talent School District. “These results are a testament to what happens when students are surrounded by adults who know them, believe in them, and refuse to let them fall through the cracks.”
Digging deeper into the numbers, PHS also had impressive results in key subgroups:
  • PHS students with disabilities had an 85.2% on-time graduation rate, 13 points above the state average.
  • Phoenix High’s migrant students graduated at a 92.3% clip, nearly 10 points higher than the state average.
  • PHS students who earned at least a half-credit in any Career and Technical Education (CTE) course had a 94.5% graduation rate, and CTE concentrators – students who earned at least two CTE credits – had a graduation rate of over 95%.
  • PHS students experiencing poverty – those who received SNAP benefits, were in foster care, experienced homelessness or received migrant education services – had an 89.7% graduation rate, 18 points higher than the state average (71.3%) and 12 points higher than the average in Jackson County (77.4%).
“Our staff, graduation coaches, counselors, and teachers worked tirelessly, and our families partnered with us in powerful ways to help students reach the finish line,” Cross said. “It's another great day to be a Pirate!”
