A Message from Principal Schleif
Welcome to the No Excuses University at Phoenix Elementary. This year you will learn like never before as we prepare students for their path to college. Each and every student has very special academic and social gifts. These gifts are seen on a daily basis in the way students work hard in the classroom in reading, writing, and math. They are also seen in the way our students display character by focusing on the six character traits: Trustworthiness, Respectful, Responsible, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. As you read through the handbook, you will learn about the expectations we have for all students of the No Excuses University at Phoenix Elementary. Our Pledge is: We are committed to creating a school that knows no limits to the academic success of each student. Our One Goal: Every student, without exception and without excuse, will be proficient or advanced in reading, language arts and math. Students will be successful if you remember these two words, "No Excuses." “No Excuses” is not just our motto, it is our commitment as students, parents, and teachers to do whatever it takes to be successful in school. We have great students and I look forward to seeing them grow this year. I am proud of them and I look forward to celebrating their (our) successes throughout the 2019-2020 school year!

Phoenix Elementary History
Phoenix Elementary School first occupied its current site on Rose Street beginning in mid-1800. The school has gradually expanded from a one-room schoolhouse to its present facility. The school’s primary wing brick building, constructed in 1954, was enhanced in 1974 with the addition of the “round” building containing eight classrooms and a large media center, as well as the gym/cafeteria. Four more classrooms were added in 1995. A multipurpose (gym) room and the School-Based Health Center were built in 2002. A cover for our intermediate playground was added in 2004 and walking/running track was added in the spring of 2008 though funding from the PES PTA and the Home Depot. In August of 2015, a new play structure was installed thanks to various grants and PES staff fundraising.
In 2017, a bond measure was passed and a new HVAC system, security measures and remodeling of our PES campus took place over the summer, 2018. We are very excited for the added security for our students and staff.
