Hunter Communications donates scoreboard to PHS

TALENT – Local internet and phone service provider Hunter Communications has covered the cost of a new $6,000 scoreboard for the Phoenix High softball program and a dedication ceremony will be held before a game Wednesday, April 27, at Colver Field.

The ceremony, which will include short speeches by Phoenix Mayor Terry Baker, PHS softball coach Kevin Scoggins and Hunter Communications vice president of sales and marketing Carey Cahill, is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m.

Last summer, Hunter Communications launched an initiative to make financial donations to the PHS All-Sports Booster Club and Talent Elementary Parent-Teacher Association on behalf of Talent and Phoenix residents who signed up for service between Sept. 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022. The funds raised from that initiative covered the cost of the scoreboard.

"At Hunter we believe in doing the right thing and putting all people first,” Hunter Communications vice president of sales and marketing Carey Cahill said. “That is why we are proud to partner with the Phoenix High School All-Sports Booster Club to support girls’ sports and provide the girls softball team with a quality scoreboard they deserve."

The blue Nevco scoreboard was installed by softball parent Jason Vos on April 8 and replaces one that had been in use since 2013. Hunter Communications staff members worked closely with Vos to remove the old scoreboard and set posts and install the new board.

Hunter Communications representatives will be on hand at the event with promotional giveaways and information about their Fiber the Home service. The dedication will precede a 5 p.m. Skyline Conference clash between Phoenix and Mazama.
