Response to today's lockdown
May 10, 2023
Dear families and district staff,
I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone for their quick action and patience following today’s hoax threat to the safety of our students. As you may know, we have learned that this threat was part of a nationwide hoax that originated in Texas and was shared on social media, primarily through Snapchat.
I want to assure everyone that our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and volunteers. Our policy is to take every precaution when it comes to threats like these in order to protect those in our buildings. We work closely with law enforcement and follow established protocols to ensure that our responses are effective and efficient.
As a parent of two daughters myself, I know that sinking feeling when I receive a message about a possible threat on their college campus. We strive to communicate the most accurate information as soon as possible so that you can have peace of mind knowing that we are taking all necessary steps to keep everyone safe.
Though false alarms such as these are frustrating, today’s hoax did at least provide another opportunity to remind everybody that we have a parent-student reunification plan in place. I understand that part of the challenge parents face is knowing what to do and what not to do when their child alerts them to a possible emergency that the school has yet to report, but please know that our goal in cases such as these is to gather the most accurate information and share it with families as quickly as possible.
Again, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone for their cooperation and patience. Let's continue to work together to keep our school community safe and secure.
Sincerely,
Brent Barry, Superintendent
