PHS organizes Jovanny's Jam

WHAT: Jovanny's Jam: Students vs. Staff Showdown

WHEN: Thursday, March 14, 6:30 p.m. tip-off.

WHERE: At Phoenix High (main gym).

COST: $2 admission fee.

WHY: Phoenix High School is raising money to support its Sparrow, PHS senior Jovanny. Always considered a miracle child, Jovanny was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome after he was born and has had more than 13 surgeries, including four heart surgeries and three brain surgeries. He went through his first open-heart surgery when he was six days old. PHS students are working hard to earn money for Jovanny through sponsored community service and other projects, including Jovanny's Jam.

MORE ABOUT JOVANNY: Jovanny loves school, church and going to the movies. His family describes him as happy, positive, silly and funny, and he always has a smile on his face. While pregnant with Jovanny, his mother was told by doctors that Jovanny would not survive. Jovanny is not a candidate for a heart transplant, so he will need medical treatment for the rest of his life.
