ANAHEIM, Calif. — Students from Phoenix High School were among over 23,000 attendees at the DECA International Career and Development Conference (ICDC), held April 27-30 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event brought together high school students, teacher-advisors, business professionals, and alumni from around the world to compete and share insights in various business disciplines.

Representing Phoenix High, Javier Quintana, Seneca Ikemire, and David Arellano excelled in the Business Operations Research event. The trio partnered with Rogue Ski Shop to enhance the business’s employee recruitment, hiring, and retention practices, showcasing their ability to apply classroom theories to real-world business challenges.

In competitive marketing events, AJ Merlina and Bentley Becker also stood out in their respective categories – Restaurant and Food Service Management and Business Services Marketing. Their presentations demonstrated a deep understanding of market dynamics and customer service excellence.

Leadership development was another cornerstone of the conference experience for PHS students. Keelie Woodside, India Akers, Max Heie, Makaio Potts, and Cielo Marlia participated in leadership training designed to equip them with skills necessary for effective business leadership.

Further enhancing his leadership role, Quintana participated in State Officer Training and served as a voting delegate for the Executive International Officer Team, emphasizing his commitment to both personal growth and service to the DECA organization.

The strong showing by PHS students at the ICDC highlights the school’s commitment to preparing its students for successful careers in business and leadership, enriching their educational experiences with practical, competitive, and leadership opportunities on a global stage. The students qualified for the conference by performing well at Oregon's State Career Development Conference, February 11-13 in Portland.

The conference featured a keynote address from Kido Okeleke, the Global Product Line Manager II in Special Products for Jordan Brand at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton.
