City of Medford - Traffic Counter
*Six (6) part-time positions available!
The City of Medford Public Works Department - Traffic Engineering Division is looking for several attentive and dependable temporary workers to fill immediate vacancies. The primary duty is to observe traffic at intersections while counting vehicle turning movements using a hand-held computerized counting board. Employees will be required to drive to/from/between multiple work locations.
Applicants should be available to work between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, up to 20 hours per week. Temporary summer positions begin in late May and are expected to run 3-4 months.

Typical Job Duties
- Monitor traffic and manually tally vehicle movements using traffic counting device (TDC - Ultra or similar).
- Working primarily outdoors in Right of Way areas.
- Performing testing to ensure equipment is in working order.
- Detailed note taking.
- Driving.
- Assisting engineering staff in a variety of daily tasks or special projects.
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school and/or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Requires possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire.
- Requires completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
- Employees will be required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time in various weather conditions including weather extremes.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Ability to:
- Work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to follow oral, written, and drawn instructions.
- Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others.
- Relate to the general public in a positive manner.
- Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
