Support for Students & Families from Immigrant & Refugee Backgrounds

PTS is with you

The Phoenix-Talent School District is a community of learners committed to equity and the success of every student. Additionally, all children in the United States have a constitutional right to equal access to public educational opportunities regardless of their immigration status or the status of their parent(s). Changes in federal immigration enforcement practices do not impact our legal responsibility to protect the rights and privacy of our students, staff and families. We will continue to follow PTS protocols, policies and state and federal laws, including the following:
  • PTS does not collect or maintain information about the immigration status of any student or their family members.
  • Staff must follow our guidance for enforcement action procedures.
  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protects the privacy of student education records and restricts the sharing of personally identifiable information without parental consent or a lawfully-issued subpoena or court order.
Please visit our Student Privacy webpage for other resources, including related board policies.

Travel safely to school

  • Always let your family know your plans. If your routine changes, keep them informed so they don't have to worry.
  • Travel with others. There is safety in numbers.
  • Keep your head up and be aware. Look for things or people that are out of the ordinary or that are unsafe to be near. This means walking with your eyes forward and not looking at your phone!
  • Have a plan to head back to school, home, or another prearranged safe place if something is not okay.
  • Report your concerns to a caring adult immediately.
  • Inform the school if you suspect anything unsafe.
